How to Protect your Servers from Attacks and Hackers?

For any company that has a server-based network, internet security should a top priority. It is simply not enough to rely on anti-viral software or basic security features anymore. Yes, we know, businesses must cut costs and improve efficiency to make a profit. But when it comes to internet security, the more you have the better.

Of course, it does not have to cost you an arm and a leg to protect your server. What it does mean, however, is that you must remain vigilant. You must make certain that you are using the right combination of security software and features to protect your servers.

Where to begin? All servers have built-in security features. Unfortunately, most businesses don’t utilise them because they don’t know how. As a result, they purchase a bunch of expensive software patches to do the same job at double the price. The solution? Hire a professional to configure your server's security settings. It will save you quite a bit of money in the long run.

The next step is to choose the right firewall. Again, more is better. Yes, software firewalls are fine for small networks, but if your network is large or even medium-size, we strongly recommend a hardware firewall. The hardware version controls access to your computers at a single point, which makes it easier to monitor.

Of course, your network will also require reliable anti-virus software. If it is kept current, software can prevent viruses, worms and even Trojan Horses. Again, it must be updated! Believe it or not, most internet crimes occur because people fail to update their software. As a result, a new virus or worm will go undetected by the old program. Lastly, it is important to restrict the number of login attempts for your server. When a business fails to put a limit on login attempts, a hacker can use a program that randomly generates passwords for as long as it takes to gain access to your network.
